This Holiday Season, Give the Gift of Printing

This Holiday Season, Give the Gift of Printing

A truly unique offering. The last few weeks of pre-Christmas craziness are upon us. And at this time of year, we often ask ourselves: what do I get for someone who has everything? Ever considered printing? It might sound like an unusual gift, but that's exactly what makes it so special. Here's a list of ten great printing gifts you can get for that hard-to-please loved one this holiday season: 10. A vehicle wrap A colorful, removable, vinyl cover for your car or truck isn't just a great business ad. Kids wanting to bring some personality to that 'gently used' first car love vehicle wraps because they can be printed with the patterns or images of their choice. And when trends or interests change, the vinyl coating can be removed as easily as a sticker. 9. Stickers Kids love stickers. So do all of us who are young at heart. You might not want to give 1000 as a gift, […]

5 Ways To Celebrate Like A Green Printer

5 Ways To Celebrate Like A Green Printer

The holidays are the best time to save paper. Being a green printer is tough. And one of the hardest things about it is that no matter where we find places to reduce, reuse, and recycle, the fact is that we go through paper – a ton of paper – all the time. No matter how green we get, that's still the nature of the business, and it's the single biggest contributor to the size of our environmental footprint. In order to offset this somewhat unavoidable negative impact, many printers and designers take steps in other areas of their lives to be extra EXTRA eco-friendly. And one of the best times of year to make a difference – especially in terms of paper – is during the holiday season. Here are a few easy things anyone can do over the holidays to save paper and reduce waste, green printer-style: Make your own recycled wrapping paper: Instead of buying all that […]

10 Ways Out of Work Designers Can Market Themselves Offline

10 Ways Out of Work Designers Can Market Themselves Offline

1-5 After a heyday that seemed like it would never end, the tech industry is finally suffering. I'm not trying to rub it in, it's just a fact that layoffs are happening, startups are faltering, and designers and developers are having to look for work where work once came looking for them. Depressing as this sounds, there's really no better time to look to the future in a positive way. Be light on your feet, try new things, get out of the box and don't be afraid to experiment. In search of sustenance, many techie creatives are beginning to look away from the computer and towards the big old world outside. After all, when emailing, Twittering, and all-round internet living fails, the best thing you can do is get out there and start networking offline. With this in mind, Hotcards presents 10 ways you can use low cost printing to fuel your next big career step: 1. Print New Business […]

Green Christmas

Green Christmas

'Tis the season to be…eco-chic? 2007 is the year of the green Christmas – for the world of advertising, at least. Retailers across the globe are having green printing done in promotion of enviro-friendly gift giving this year – and that doesn't mean giving money to charities in lieu of gifts. Nope, the Christmas rage this season is organic fabrics, bags made from recycled bike tires, energy saver appliances, all-natural foods and spa products, and even environmentally friendly gifts for your 'green' pet. It's all very trendy and beautiful, and it's called eco-chic. You can bet the advertising for this season's gift-of-choice is going to be a tad more tasteful than the year of Tickle Me Elmo. In fact, one need only look into the display windows of Barney's New York to see a veritable host of attractive marketing displays. These displays mix the golds and silvers of recycled cans with rich browns and greens to create a seamless blend […]

Primaries, Holidays, Scheduled to Conflict

Primaries, Holidays, Scheduled to Conflict

Start planning now for the festive, er, election season. Usually, this is the time of year to ready your full color printing for the holidays, but because our country can't wait to race to the polls this election season, we might see campaign advertising coming in to conflict with holiday advertising. This will mean some tricky maneuvering for holiday advertisers and campaign organizers alike. First, Nevada changed its primary date to January 19th, the same date as the New Hampshire Primary. According to New Hampshire state law, its primary must be changed to be the first in the nation. However, a good deal of elbow-jostling later, we see the Michigan Primary slated for the 15th, and just last week, Iowa made the some-say-bold-some-say-crazy move to hold their caucus on the 3rd of January. The upshot of all this is that New Hampshire is on the brink of changing their primary date to somewhere between Christmas and New Years, a move […]
