Seven Great Sources of Inspiration

Seven Great Sources of Inspiration

Every artist needs stimulation once in a while. If your art form happens to be graphic design, advertising, marketing, copywriting, or anything else that puts food on the table, it's important to have fast, efficient ways to break down that creative block and get back to work. It seems like the folks at the HOW Conference are a bit too busy (or are having a bit too much fun!) to update all of us back home on what's happening at HOW. To fill the gap, we'll just have to find inspiration elsewhere. Here's a list of resources and strategies available to any creative in need of a little push in the right direction. 1. Give Yourself Time This is never the easiest thing to do in the design field. You've got deadlines and co-workers breathing down your neck for results, but you can either spend the next two hours banging your head against a wall, or you can put an […]

HOW Design Conference – Sunday, June 10th

First Hotcards update from the HOW Design Conference. The conference got off to a great start today. Me and Shontal were up pretty early finding our spot and getting oriented. There are a lot of people here already. It looks like it's going to be a crazy couple of days. Here's Shontel, hard at work getting the booth set up while I take pictures. At first, it looked like there was going to be a lot to do, but set up was really quick and easy. Check out the slick signage! We are, indeed, the only low cost full color union printer in that nation. I think a lot of designers are going to be happy to find out how cheap full color printing can be. As you can see, Shontel is already really excited! Here's me in front of the completed booth in my stylin' Hotcards T-shirt. As you can see, we're big Mac people at Hotcards. We've got […]

Calling All Printers and Print Designers!

Calling All Printers and Print Designers!

I know you've got to be out there. Somewhere in this sea of web designers, there has to be people that are still interested in, and engaged in, print design. How do I know this? Because everywhere you look there are billboards, posters, flyers, table tents, brochures, labels, stickers, and coasters, many of them beautifully, brilliantly designed. But you go online and try to find printers or print designers blogging about their craft on a regular basis? Either I am totally out of some super-elite loop, or there are virtually none of them out there, which seems senseless to me. Just because the internet is the domain of the web designer, doesn't mean it's his or her exclusive territory in which to gain recognition, have ideas heard, and build an exciting community. Are all the print designers out there hiding? Lurking amidst the impregnable sites and blogs wielded by the mighty hands of the web designers; hiding behind blanket topic […]

Look for Hotcards at This Year’s HOW Conference!!!

Look for Hotcards at This Year’s HOW Conference!!!

For those not in the know, the HOW Conference is a huge meetup of graphic designers from all over the world. From June 10th to 13th, Hotcards is going to have a booth set up at the HOW Conference, hosted by the wonderful people at HOW Magazine. This year, the event is being held at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta. If you're in the area, come on down to Booth 258 and say hi! We'd love to get to know you better. It looks like there's going to be an amazing range of graphic designers at HOW this year, representing not just design companies, but everything from banks, government, and medicine, to sporting goods, automotive, and even chocolate manufacturers. It just goes to show how integrated design is in every aspect of our lives. HOW is always a great opportunity to meet other designers, and discuss business, art, and technology – you know, all the stuff you friends and family […]
