Best Sites For Learning About Sustainable Printing And Design
I showed you my list, now you show me yours.
I'm a big believe in the wise old saying, “the more we get together, the happier we'll be.” When it comes to any type of creative project, the best results are borne from an effective collaborative process. Websites are better when designers and programmers work together. And print is better when printers and designers work together.
Luckily, over the last year or so, the amazing surge of interest in sustainable design and printing has led to the interesting side effect of printers and designers working together more closely to achieve an ideally satisfying result.
That being said, check out some of my favorite sites from around the world created by graphic designers who are thinking green in the most amazing ways:
This site is a great source for interesting environmental news AND a focus, as the title suggests, on gorgeous eye-candy found in nature. It's design inspiration from nature, and it fuels creativity in developing inspirational green design.
News about pulp, paper and pollution from people that care about both. But in different ways, of course.
As of today, they're at 111 and counting. This is one of the best sources on the internet for innovative thinking on how to green your design philosophy, process, practice, production, and in short, your entire life. Full of interesting info on sustainable materials, and what designers can do to make the results of their ideas eco-feasible.
Action-oriented initiative to save the planet through good design. The site is full of solid information, and ways for designers to get involved and connected with other like-minded individuals.
Blogger Sylvia G collects the best in green advertising (and some of the worst) from around the world. The posts include lots of great video, and if you like them, the same blogger has several different ad-focused blogs to check out. And she looks at a lot of print design, which I approve of.
SUPER informative site for designers that want to create sustainable work, but aren't sure where to start. Not only is it full of information on green design, but on how to choose a green printer, the right paper, and how NOT to get caught up in all the greenwashing.
London-based communications design agency with a website full of gorgeous writing and ideas that speak eloquently of the case for sustainable design. They don't just design green, they help their clients understand how to choose eco-friendly ad materials and basically make the world a better place. They're not a green design resource per se, but they are a textbook example of how to do it right.
